Long-Term Running Goals:

After my mission (tentatively June 2017-June 2019), which will be two years of virtually no running, I want to build my fitness back up stronger than it ever was before. Then when I think I am ready I may attempt for a spot on the USU roster again. We'll see how long I have to do that based on age and eligibility and stuff. If I don't ever do it that's fine, I'll still have a lot of fun with running. Some times I want to beat someday:

15:30 5K

1:10 HM

2:40 Marathon

I have a fantasy in my mind of really breaking through in the marathon and making the olympic trials but we'll see about that haha. That would honestly be a dream come true. I definitely want to run the Boston Marathon at least once. Also maybe when I'm old but not too old I might try a 100 miler to qualify for Western States.

Personal:

Freshman at Utah State University. I still have not chosen a major. Just graduated from Logan High School in May 2016. One thing I enjoy aside from running is music, weather it's playing or listening. I am member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and plan on serving a two-year mission after two semesters of school.

No workout, I went with the team to our tri-meet at Box Elder. I wish I could have run the course.

I went to the Bear River meet with the team today to watch, and then for some dumb reason while walking the course I decided I would try racing. So I changed into my trainers (which I just happened to have with me) I started jogging a little and I was limping, but overtime the limp sort of went away. The race started and I felt sluggish from the start. I did okay on the first hill, but Damon was already out of my reach of speed. So two huge hills later, I crested the third hill and I didn't have anything else left in me (I was probably going at about an 8 minute pace) so I dropped out because all this race was going to do was put bad time on my record and more pain in my body. Worthless pain, not good workout pain (this would have left me worse off than it would have done me good) It just so happened that where I dropped out was as far from the starting area as you could possibly get, so I walked back, over half a mile at least. Pretty soon the calf pain started to come back worse than it was before. That was a dumb idea, but I learned from  it. Now I know how much harder it is to run when you haven't prepared fro it during the day, and I also know that that is the hardest course that I 've ever ran on, and I've never even heard of it before now.

I tried running but I could tell from the start that it was a no-go, so I spent 15 minutes on the eliptical.  (would've stayed longer if I didn't have to leave at 4). Talked to coach before I went to the weight room and he took a look at my leg and pretty much confirmed that it was just a muscle strain, which rules out shin splints, tendonitis and a tibial stress fracture. I'm so glad that it's not a bone problem. Now I've just really gotta hope that I can be in racing shape next friday at region. I've been on varsity all season and I'm not about to let this injury knock me off for our most important race.

40 min on the eliptical. I got a pretty good workout, I just wish I could be running with everyone else. Still crossing my fingers. I'm hoping I can run starting wednesday.

So obviously, I've had a pretty big hiatus of running, and it was completely involuntary. My leg just really got messed up from whatever I did to it. I thought I was ready to start again, and I could actually do the action of running, but I still had a small hitch in my step, so I shoulden't have ran today. I changed after school and then did canyon rd. and back on the canal trail and temple blvd. I felt really sluggish, and I could tell that my form was struggling, too. (I had no knee lift or drive). I got some gel arch supports the other day and wore them on my run but towards the end I started getting a blister, so I probably won't use those again. Anyways, the entire time I was breathing hard and my legs felt heavy, and then towards the end I was limping more and more. So we'll see when I can run  without pain. Saturday maybe?
